Don’t be weighed down with eye baggage this summer – here’s a few simple secrets to share with you to help combat puffiness, dark circles, general brightness and skin clarity.
Our eyes are the most delicate area we have and many people don’t really understand the simpleness of how-to-best care for them. Did you know that most of our lines, wrinkles and signs of ageing comes from dehydration? Yes, this means we need to drink plenty of water for eyes as well!
There are no sebaceous glands present within the orbital socket of the eye area (the very soft tissue immediately underneath) and no circulation to stimulate the normal functioning of skin, exfoliation, sloughing for cell renewal, plumpness and clarity. There are only two other places on your body that doesn’t have sebaceous glands, the palms of the hands and the soles of your feet.
Most of us are aware of needing to be very gentle when applying serums, I was always taught ONLY to use the ring finger and ALWAYS work from the top of the brow bone towards the outside and around underneath the soft tissue towards the middle, then back up to the top of the brow bone constantly moving in a circular motion ever so gently! Today, I am more inclined to start from the outer eye area and just gently pat or glide product in towards the middle and I have discovered that actually patting quite firmly is a bit of a beauty secret.
During a holiday to Greece some years ago, believe it or not, my knee got slammed very hard by a donkey …. Yes, a donkey! Anyway, long story short, the ‘thump’ was so severe it left me with a large sack of fluid which was awful! Back in Australia some four to five weeks later, I was a little perplexed with what to do, the sack of fluid was still quite full and uncomfortable. After seeking a medical opinion and analysis from physiotherapist, both recommendations were to have my knee drained (mmm… no) then I remembered a friend who taught an ancient Japanese method known as ‘tapping’ and my instructions were to tap hard as I could bear which I did for two days, the body took up the fluid and the oedema completely disappeared …. Oh how happy I was!
Your eye area does not stimulate circulation or renew the tissue without help, so why not ‘tap’ (by gently but firmly pressing) the area every evening when you apply your eye serum …. Tap, tap, tap! This is the beauty secret no-one else will tell you, tap to stimulate the dark circles and tap for bags and puffiness underneath the eyes, tap to stimulate cell renewal and clarity! This remove blood that is trapped and cannot move freely away from the area.
Using the best products is a crucial part of helping to delay signs of ageing. My very favourite products are the Aspect range and the Aspect Eyelift Serum is a powerful antioxidant combination that will actively assist with the signs of ageing which is amazing value, particularly with how little you need to use. We recommend only a pin size or half grain of rice of the serum in each application.
One last thing I would like to mention is, the over-use of an eye serum. This is a no-no! Too much product may over nourish and cause puffiness, or blackheads and whiteheads. Did you know we blink our eyes an average of 15-20 times per minute, that’s a whopping 28,800 times per day! Each and every time we blink product creeps closer to the inner corner of the eye, so we don’t need to apply the product all the way along (about two thirds from the outer towards the centre) the blinking and the moisture will complete the application. So, don’t fall into the trap of thinking more is better it is unnecessary (not to mention wasteful and costly).
